Brouwerij Westvleteren
1836 all'interno dell'abbazia trappista di Nostra
diffusione rimane tuttavia piuttosto modesta: producono
casse circa.
Il
birrificio produce tre birre
La Westvleteren Blonde
La
Westvleteren 8
La
Westvleteren 12
Secondo
A
Differentemente
English version.
Brouwerij Westvleteren
This Belgian brewery was founded in 1836 inside the Trappist Abbey of Our Lady of St. Sixtus of Westvleteren, near the town of Poperinge where it is produced hops, and the medieval town of Yeper. Up to 1871 the production was exclusively for the domestic consumption of the monks.
Only in 1877 is the first marketing of beers, the diffusion of which, however, remains rather modest: they produce 75 days per year for a maximum of 4750 hectoliters equal to approximately 60000 cases.
The brewery produces three beers:
The Westvleteren Blonde
The Westvleteren 8
The Westvleteren 12
According to a restriction dating back to 1945, the bottles do not have the label (except the special edition to raise funds in order to restore the cloister of the abbey), and report on the cap the alcohol content according to the Belgian system, and all the information required by law. Because of the little space available, Westvleteren is the only beers Trappist which does not mention the official logo on the bottles of authentic Trappist product. The entire production process of Westvleteren, at every stage, takes place in the monastery. The monks totally manage the production with the help of only 4 employees.
Unlike the other Trappist breweries the Westevleteren only produces for the local community. This, together with the low quantity of production, makes beer Westevleteren a rarity.
